Obstetrics & Gyneocological Nursing department aims to ensure quality education to the students, in order to prepare our graduates and postgraduates with necessary skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive & holistic Nursing care to the mother and newborn including women with Gynaeocological problems which is required to work and perform independently in various health care settings as midwife. The department ensures practice based learning and encourages student research in the areas of women’s health, reproductive health, high risk pregnancy, neonatal care and promotes interdisciplinary learning and research.

Achievements: Dr. R. Vijayalakshmi is a Dedicated educator and esteemed professional in the field of nursing, renowned for her deep passion for teaching, clinical care, and research. She holds a Ph.D. In Nursing from T.N. Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing from Apollo College of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from M.A Chidambaram College of Nursing. Her academic journey includes specialized training in Operation Room Techniques and Management from Christian Medical College & Hospital in Vellore, Post Graduate Diploma in Values of Health Care from Annamalai University. Additionally, she is certified in NABH Standards for Nursing Excellence by the Quality Council of India and has completed a certificate course in Essentials of Palliative Care from the Indian Association of Palliative Care. Throughout her career, she has held significant positions in nursing education, including serving as the former Principal of Tagore College of Nursing, The Cancer Institute in Adyar, and Sri Mahalakshmi Women’s College of Nursing. Her journey began as an Assistant Lecturer at M.A. Chidambaram College of Nursing in Chennai. She then advanced to a Lecturer position at KPJ International College of Nursing & Health Sciences in Nillai, Malaysia. she also took on several leadership roles at Omayal Achi College of Nursing, where she served as Reader, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Head of the OBG Department. Her commitment to advancing nursing knowledge is further exemplified by her involvement in funded projects, such as a community-based risk assessment for breast and cervical cancer, aimed at enhancing awareness in rural communities, supported by T.N. Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and AASAI. She has authored several scientific articles in prestigious journals and serves as a proficient editor for numerous national and international publications. Additionally, she shares her insights and ideas at national and international conferences, making her a sought-after resource. she has demonstrated her commitment to public health and community service by organizing training programs and community health camps, in addition to guiding multiple dissertation projects. Her passion for teaching and unshakable commitment to nursing education make her a valuable part of the nursing profession who will continue to advance nursing care in the future.
